The glass plant in Simsboro will have downtime starting approximately July 23.

 

The following statement was issued by the Ardagh Group on Wednesday:

 

"Based on current market conditions, the Ardagh Group glass manufacturing facility in Ruston (Simsboro), La., will be taking inventory management downtime. It is the intent to drain one of the two furnaces, which allows the company to minimize issues during a furnace restart. Ardagh will continue to monitor sales and inventory levels to determine the restart date."

 

The company spokesperson did not say how many employees will be affected.

 

In a letter to the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the company said the temporary layoff may exceed six months.
